Till we say, "I Do"
Our Story
How we met
Our story began at a church small group in Cape Town. Having recently moved
to the city, Rieghardt found himself surrounded by many new faces and
unfamiliar surroundings. Among the group, a connection formed when it became
clear that both of us shared a love for running. What started as a simple
conversation quickly grew into something more meaningful as we got to know
each other better.
Looking back, we believe it was no coincidence that we met that evening — it
was part of God's perfect plan that brought us together at just the right
time.
Our first dates ☕🏃♂️
We like to say we had two “first dates.”
The first was a coffee date at Plato, where we had the chance to get to know
each other better. During that time, we discovered how much we had in common
— including our love for family, sport, and our shared faith.
Our first official date didn’t quite go according to plan. After running a
race in Wellington, we were supposed to go to an open-air cinema at
Kirstenbosch. However, an unexpected calf injury meant a change of plans,
and instead we had a braai at Rieghardt’s flat.
What initially seemed like an unfortunate change turned out to be a blessing
in disguise. The quiet evening gave us the opportunity to spend time
together and get to know each other even more.
It was a simple evening that became a meaningful step in our journey
together.
💍 The Engagement
Planning the proposal was one of the biggest secrets I have ever had to keep.
It took careful planning and the help of good friends to arrange everything
behind the scenes — from setting up the picnic to making sure everything was
ready at the right time.
I decided that the best way to keep the surprise would be to propose after
running a marathon together — something Lené would never suspect. The plan
was to go to Dias Beach at Cape Point, a place as beautiful and special as
the moment I had in mind. After the run, we walked for about 25 minutes along
the beach toward the picnic spot.
The weather was perfect, and the beach was quiet with almost no one around —
it felt like the whole place had been prepared just for us.To keep the
surprise going, I even pretended that we might be walking into someone
else's picnic setup — even though it had all been carefully planned. When we
reached the spot and everything became clear, I was about to ask the most
important question of my life.
She said yes — and she was shaking for nearly an hour afterwards.
It was a perfect day and the beginning of the next chapter of our story.
